Megan Stumph-Turner Recognized as KCMBA Pro Bono Champion

Baker Sterchi Member Megan Stumph-Turner has been recognized as the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) May 2022 Pro Bono Champion for her work with the Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP).

Missouri Federal Court Judge Stephen Bough selected Stumph-Turner to receive the award because “throughout a difficult case she persisted, worked hard, and ensured that our justice system functioned even for the poor and the least of our society.”

Stumph-Turner commented, “I am truly honored to receive this recognition for pro bono service. I appreciate the opportunity to help clients through the Volunteer Attorney Project that would not otherwise have an advocate.”

Stumph-Turner’s civil litigation practice includes creditors’ rights, financial services, real estate, construction, and commercial litigation. She serves as the Women’s Affinity Group Liaison (Kansas City) to the firm’s Diversity Committee where, among other activities, she helps prepare and moderate events that focus on building leadership skills and celebrating women. She also plays an active role in mentoring female associates in the firm and is involved with attorney recruiting efforts in Kansas City.

The VAP program is co-sponsored by the KCMBA, the Lawyers Association of Kansas City and the Kansas City Bar Foundation. Each year, hundreds of Kansas City area residents receive pro bono legal counsel or representation for problems involving consumer law, family law matters, housing issues, and various other civil legal matters. Private attorneys donate their time and experience to those in need through the program.

Details of Stumph-Turner’s work with the VAP were published in the May issue of the KC Counselor, KCMBA’s monthly magazine.
