Midway through a two-week jury trial, Baker Sterchi attorneys secured a highly favorable confidential settlement on behalf of a developer in a bet-the-company construction dispute involving a residential development project. The dispute arose after the contractor abandoned work, including installation of streets, sewers and waterlines, and filed a mechanic’s lien seeking more than $750,000 for breach of contract. The lien stalled the project for nearly five years, threatening the viability of the developer’s business. Our client denied the contractor’s claims and asserted counterclaims, including more than $12 million in lost profits. The settlement clears the way for our client to move forward with building new neighborhoods and homes.
