Baker Sterchi attorney Paul Venker recently spoke at two Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) events, engaging with students and young professionals about the Freedom Suits Memorial.
On July 14, Venker participated in a Lunch and Learn event for high school and college students interested in law school and legal careers. He spoke to the students at Freedom Plaza and showed them the freedom suits “mini-museum” in the Law Library Association of St. Louis, offering insight on the freedom suits’ history and significance.
On July 25, Venker spoke at BAMSL’s Young Lawyers Division Summer Associate Luncheon, where he presented on the history and significance of the Freedom Suits Memorial.
Venker serves as President of the Freedom Suits Memorial Foundation, whose mission encompasses both a physical aspect in the Memorial and an educational undertaking to enhance and expand upon the message of the Memorial. The memorial honors the courageous enslaved individuals who sued for their freedom in St. Louis courts prior to the Civil War, asserting their legal rights under Missouri law. It also recognizes the lawyers and judges who participated in these early civil rights cases.
BAMSL supports legal professionals in the St. Louis region through community service, education and networking.Recent Speaking Engagements
