Baker Sterchi Member Laura Beasley will speak at the Supreme Court of Illinois swearing-in ceremony for new lawyers at the University of Illinois College of Law on Nov. 5. Beasley serves as chair of the Supreme Court’s 5th District Character and Fitness Committee, which evaluates the moral character and general fitness of applicants seeking admission to the Illinois Bar.
In addition to her Supreme Court role, Beasley is a hearing board officer for the Illinois Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission (ARDC), which also operates under the authority of the Supreme Court of Illinois, and recently attended the ARDC’s annual meeting at The University Club in Chicago. The ARDC promotes and protects the integrity of the legal profession through attorney registration, education, investigation, prosecution and remedial action. Both of her Supreme Court roles are independent of her private practice.
An experienced trial lawyer, Beasley focuses her practice on civil defense litigation. She is a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (ADTA) Executive Council Class of 2027 and chair of the Women of the ADTA Committee. She also serves as DRI’s Illinois state representative and is a board member of the East St. Louis Bar Association and the St. Clair County Bar Association.
Beasley earned her law degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is admitted to practice in Illinois and Missouri.
