Rob Chandler and Greg Odom to Present on Personal Jurisdiction at IDC/MODL Seminar

On Aug. 27, Baker Sterchi Members Rob Chandler and Greg Odom will present “The Current State of Personal Jurisdiction for Illinois and Missouri” during a Defense Law Seminar jointly hosted by the Illinois Defense Counsel (IDC) and Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers (MODL). The seminar will take place at Live! by Loews in St. Louis.

Chandler and Odom’s session will compare personal jurisdiction law in Illinois and Missouri, two states with significant toxic tort dockets that often include claims brought by nonresident plaintiffs against foreign corporations. They will examine recent decisions involving specific, general and consent jurisdiction, including Illinois’ consent jurisdiction statute, and offer practical guidance for asserting and preserving personal jurisdiction defenses.

Based in Baker Sterchi’s St. Louis office, Chandler represents clients in professional and management liability, construction, insurance, real estate, product liability, complex commercial litigation and related business disputes. He is a member of MODL, as well as DRI’s Construction Law Committee and Fidelity and Surety Committee.

Odom, based in the firm’s Belleville office, co-chairs Baker Sterchi’s Toxic Tort Practice Group. He defends clients in toxic tort and commercial litigation in Illinois and Missouri state and federal courts. Odom serves as second vice president of IDC and is a member of its Executive Committee.

The seminar will also feature a presentation comparing insurer bad faith law in Illinois and Missouri and a judicial panel featuring judges from both states. The program concludes with a St. Louis Cardinals game at Busch Stadium.
