Baker Sterchi Appoints Practice Group Leaders, Blog Co-Editor


Baker Sterchi has appointed new leaders to several firm practice groups and a blog co-editor to the Insurance Coverage Law Blog:

Appellate

Lisa Larkin and Teresa Young of St. Louis were appointed co-chairs of the Appellate Practice Group.

Larkin has practiced exclusively in litigation and appeals since 1996, concentrating on personal injury defense, medical malpractice defense, and business litigation. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute Appellate Advocacy Committee.

Young routinely handles appellate matters, with her experience utilized by trial counsel at every level of litigation, including arguing before appellate courts. She is a member of the prestigious Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel.

Missouri Lawyers Media has recognized Larkin and Young on its POWER List of Appellate Attorneys for the last three years.

Baker Sterchi appellate attorneys have successfully represented existing and new clients in various issues in state and federal courts nationwide. They also handle extraordinary writs and have been retained by prominent trade organizations like the Product Liability Advisory Council and the Defense Research Institute to prepare amicus curiae briefs in closely watched cases.

Employment & Labor

Located in Kansas City, Jackie Longfellow was appointed chair and Nick Ruble vice-chair of the Employment & Labor Practice Group.

Longfellow routinely defends employers facing discrimination charges filed with local, state and federal agencies. She is a member of the Missouri Attorney General Kansas City Trial Masters Team and a frequent speaker on issues of interest to the employment industry. 

Ruble represents companies of all sizes and industries in employment and labor matters. He is co-vice chair of the Kansas City Metropolitan Employment and Labor Law Committee and a frequent blogger on labor and employment issues.

Longfellow and Ruble are steering committee members of the ALFA International Labor and Employment Practice Group.

Baker Sterchi Employment & Labor Practice Group attorneys have extensive experience representing clients in employment and labor law issues. They have successfully defended numerous discrimination and other employment litigation matters and resolved many through successful motions for summary judgment.

Financial Services

Megan Stumph-Turner and Gregorio Silva of Kansas City were appointed Financial Services Practice Group co-chairs.

Stumph-Turner has extensive experience in creditors’ rights, financial services, real estate, construction, and commercial litigation. She is the editor of the Baker Sterchi Financial Services Law Blog, a steering committee member of the ALFA International Business Litigation Practice Group, and a member of the Missouri Bankers Association. 

Silva is a civil litigation attorney focused on product liability, personal injury, and business matters. He has memberships in the Propane Gas Defense Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Baker Sterchi Financial Services Practice Group attorneys provide compliance advice and handle litigation for commercial and consumer lenders, finance companies, creditor lenders, mortgage lenders, mortgage originators, credit unions and credit card issuers. They have served as local, regional and national counsel in matters involving unauthorized transfers, actions to recover from principals, and lender misconduct.

Insurance Coverage & Bad Faith 

Located in Kansas City, Michael Shunk was appointed co-chair of the Insurance Coverage & Bad Faith Practice Group, and Philip Sumner co-editor of the Insurance Coverage Law Blog.

Shunk’s practice focuses on defending individuals, insurance carriers and other corporate clients in cases involving personal injury, contract and commercial disputes, construction defects, insurance bad faith and insurance coverage issues. He is a steering committee member of the ALFA International Insurance Practice Group. 

Sumner’s practice focuses on the defense of insurers and their insureds in various matters, including construction deficiencies, product liability, wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury, uninsured/underinsured motorist, extra-contractual liability and premises liability.

Baker Sterchi insurance coverage and bad faith attorneys have extensive experience analyzing coverage issues, providing coverage opinions, and evaluating reservation of rights issues.

Product Liability

John Watt of Kansas City was appointed co-chair of the Product Liability Practice Group.

Watt is a trial lawyer representing clients in multi-million-dollar litigation involving product liability, construction, and toxic torts. He is a steering committee member of ALFA International’s Construction Practice Group and the 2023 program co-chair the 2023 ALFA Construction Law Seminar.

The Baker Sterchi team of product liability attorneys has successfully defended manufacturers, distributors and sellers of nearly every type of product imaginable - from consumer goods to medical equipment to industrial machinery.

Toxic Tort

Greg Odom and Meghan Kane of Belleville were appointed co-chairs of the Toxic Tort Practice Group.

Odom is an experienced trial attorney who defends clients in mass toxic torts and commercial litigation in state and federal courts across Illinois and Missouri, including product manufacturers, premises owners, talc suppliers, and a variety of other companies in hundreds of asbestos and benzene exposure cases. He founded the Illinois Defense Counsel Toxic Torts Committee.

Kane is a trial attorney focused on toxic torts. She is vice-chair of the Illinois Defense Counsel Tort Law Committee, and a member of the Defense Research Institute Toxic Torts and Environmental Law Committee. Odom and Kane are members of the Illinois Defense Counsel Board of Directors.
