Baker Sterchi Member Paul Venker to Serve on BAMSL CLE Panel Discussing the History of Freedom Suits

Baker Sterchi Member Paul Venker will join St. Louis City Circuit Court Judge David Mason, former Mayor Francis Slay, and former associate Shatrasha Stone on a panel discussing the history of freedom suits at a virtual 15-hour annual year-end CLE being offered by The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis on Wednesday, June 30. The program, titled “History of the Freedom Suits” is worth 1.0 hour of elimination of bias credit in Missouri, and can be attended as part of the full 15-hour course or as an individual course.

Venker is the current Chairman of the Freedom Suits Steering Committee, whose mission is to bring to reality the dream of the Hon. David C. Mason of a memorial to honor the courageous slave plaintiffs, who took great personal risk to sue for their freedom in the decades leading up to the Civil War, as well as the lawyers and judges who helped them. A groundbreaking ceremony for the 14 foot-tall memorial sculpture that will sit on the eastern plaza of the Civil Courts Building in downtown St. Louis is scheduled for this summer.
