Baker Sterchi Sponsors "Freedom Suits" and "Slavery in St. Louis" Exhibits

Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice is sponsoring two exhibits at the Law Library Association of St. Louis: “The Freedom Suits” and “Slavery in St. Louis.”

“The Freedom Suits,” curated by the Missouri State Archives-St. Louis, runs from Sept. 3 to Dec. 3 and features rarely seen court pleadings related to claims by enslaved people seeking freedom, along with explanatory panels about freedom suits in general, in St. Louis and in other parts of Missouri.

“Slavery in St. Louis,” a traveling exhibit created by the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, will be on display from Sept. 3-Oct. 1. It explores the growth of slavery in St. Louis through primary sources, historical artifacts and accounts of enslaved individuals, set against the backdrop of 18th and 19th century politics, economics and history.

Co-hosted by the Freedom Suits Memorial Foundation and the Law Library Association, both exhibits are free and open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM.

Baker Sterchi is committed to supporting initiatives that promote diversity and education within the St. Louis community and beyond. For more information about the exhibits, click here.
