Baker Sterchi Member Bob Christie authored “AI in the Courtroom: Elevating Trial Practice Through Technology,” published in the recently released summer 2026 issue of Defense News, a publication of Washington Defense Trial Lawyers (WDTL). The article was previously published in DRI’s For The Defense.
The article examines how trial attorneys can use artificial intelligence to develop courtroom visuals, explain complex evidence, draft opening and closing statements and prepare witness examination outlines. Christie discusses platforms including ChatGPT, Gamma, Microsoft Copilot and Canva AI, along with the importance of treating AI-generated content as a starting point subject to attorney review.
Based in Baker Sterchi’s Seattle office, Christie defends professionals, businesses, governmental entities, law enforcement officers and individuals in high-exposure matters. He co-chairs the firm’s Trial & Appellate Practice Group, chairs the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Trial Techniques and Tactics Committee and serves on the board of Lawyers for Civil Justice. Christie is admitted to practice in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court.
WDTL’s Defense News provides Washington’s civil defense community with legal analysis, practice guidance and updates on issues affecting defense attorneys.
