Environmental and Commercial Litigator

Jessica Reis

Senior Attorney in St. Louis

Jessica Reis is a civil trial lawyer with nearly a decade of experience litigating cases in Missouri and Illinois. She represents clients in federal and state courts, as well as in administrative proceedings, and is licensed to practice in both states.

Her practice focuses on environmental and commercial litigation. In environmental matters, Jessica has represented clients in citizen suits, permit challenges, agency rulemaking, regulatory matters and toxic tort cases. Her commercial work includes advising and representing businesses in contract disputes and related litigation. She also maintains an employment practice, where she defends discrimination lawsuits and administrative charges and regularly counsels employers on compliance, policies and risk management. As a certified e-discovery specialist, she assists clients with subpoena responses, e-discovery planning and litigation readiness, including legal holds and document retention policies. Her clients range from large corporations to individual professionals.

Jessica understands that legal disputes often involve issues that are deeply personal to her clients and can directly affect their livelihoods and reputations. She recognizes that at the center of every case are the people involved and approaches each matter with empathy and careful analysis. By taking the time to understand her clients’ concerns and goals, she develops strategies that account for both the strengths and challenges of a case and focus on achievable outcomes.

Representative Experience:

  • Resolved a declaratory relief matter for an environmental client while preserving relationships and securing assurance from agency policymakers that the client’s concerns would be addressed.
  • Obtained a defense verdict in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in a COVID-19 religious discrimination case in which punitive damages were submitted to the jury.
  • Successfully appealed an unemployment benefits case in the Southern District of Missouri, reversing a decision of the Labor and Industrial Relations Commission.
  • Developed and drafted a summary judgment motion based on a contractual claims-waiver provision that led to settlement of an AIA contract dispute for significantly less than the prior demand.
  • Secured dismissal with prejudice of a legal malpractice claim in St. Clair County, Illinois on a motion for judgment on the pleadings.
