Kentucky Trial Results in Defense Verdict for Client in Read-End Collision

On Feb. 13, 2026, Baker Sterchi Wisconsin attorneys secured a complete defense verdict in a personal injury case in Jefferson Circuit Court, Kentucky. The plaintiff alleged that a rear-end collision with our client exacerbated a pre-existing lumbar disc herniation for which he had undergone surgery four months earlier. He claimed the injuries forced him to sell his small business, a local fish market, several years earlier than planned, and claimed extensive pain and suffering as a result of the accident.

The defendant admitted liability in causing the accident, and the plaintiff asked the jury for $1.7 million in damages for past and future pain and suffering and lost wages. Following the withdrawal of three defense causation and damages experts, Baker Sterchi was asked to assume the defense of the case just six days before trial.  A Baker Sterchi attorney served as lead trial counsel, admitted pro hac vice four days before trial, working with local counsel as second chair and supported by a Baker Sterchi associate attorney. After two hours of deliberations, the jury returned a defense verdict, finding no permanent injury and no loss of earnings.
