Baker Sterchi attorney Matt Tillma completed Surety School at the Surety Claims Institute Annual Meeting, held June 24 in Galloway, New Jersey.
Enrollment in Surety School was limited to 20 students. The one-day program provided attorneys and other surety professionals with hands-on participation in a comprehensive simulation of a multi-bond contract default scenario. Students worked side-by-side with seasoned industry faculty to analyze a developing default situation, prepare strategy for principal and obligee meetings, participate in mock stakeholder meetings and examine the surety’s internal processes when evaluating performance remedies and setting reserves.
Tillma represents clients in litigation across a range of industries, including construction, commercial disputes, surety and fidelity matters, mechanic’s liens, bankruptcy, insurance defense, white-collar criminal defense and labor and employment. He has more than a decade of experience as lead counsel in jury trials. Tillma earned his law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law and is licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas.
The Surety Claims Institute is a nonprofit national association of claims executives, attorneys and consultants working in the fidelity and surety industry.
