Thomas Sterchi

Retired in Kansas City

Tom Sterchi retired as of September 30, 2025. He was a founding member of the firm in 1982 and served as chair of the Executive Committee from 1990-2013 and as co-chair from 2014-2020.

An experienced trial lawyer, Tom successfully defended manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in state and federal courts, representing some of the world’s largest companies. He frequently served as national coordinating trial counsel and lead trial counsel in high-profile cases, including products such as tampons (toxic shock syndrome), antibiotics, breast implants and contrast media. 

He also had extensive experience defending clients in mass torts and class actions, including successfully defeating class action claims against pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.
